Community Action Duluth offers driving help for those who have their permit and are trying to get their driver's license. We have a volunteer who meets people once a week at our office and drives with them for an hour, using his vehicle. When the participant is ready to take their test, they use the volunteer's vehicle for the test as well.
We are looking for more volunteers to fill this role, as our waiting list for this program is very long and our current volunteer can only work with a few people at a time.
Volunteers will need:
- Current and in good standing driver's license
- Vehicle that is up to date on all plates/tabs and in good condition (easy to drive a plus)
- Willingness to let others use their vehicle to practice
- Schedule with at least a few hours a week open for participants (specific days/times weekly set aside)
- Helpfulness, patience, flexibility, ability to guide others
- Ability to teach new drivers of varying experience levels the specific skills required for the Minnesota road test.
- Ability to interact in a patient and positive manner with a diverse intergenerational clientele.
Helpful, but not required
- Experience teaching and/or working with others on driving skills
- Insurance specific to non-licensed drivers using your vehicle (can be discussed)
Official driving instruction certification not needed, but is a plus.
