The mission of the Star of the North Maternity Home (SON) is “to serve as a home and program for housing unstable pregnant women and women with infants in need for up to 18 months.” Star of the North Maternity Home (SON) aims to “move pregnant women experiencing housing instability to self-sufficiency while promoting healthy relationships, education, adoption and/or positive parenting.” The maternity home’s philosophy acknowledges that each life is unique and holds great potential. The goals of SON are to help each mother overcome barriers in her life and, thus, improve her health, deliver a healthy baby, care for her baby after birth (or place for adoption), attain life skills, take steps toward self-sufficiency, and provide for the long-term well-being of her family.
What We Do
The Star of the North Maternity Home provides safe homes and programming for pregnant women and women with young children experiencing housing instability. Through 24x7 supervision, personal support, and mentoring, we help mothers connect to medical and other services to improve their health and the health of their children, while moving toward self-sufficiency and helping their children get a good start in life.
