Who We Are

Our mission: To improve quality of life by providing resources and services within our communities.

History: NWCSA was established in 1967 because of the Economic Opportunity Act which began the War on Poverty and resulted in the formation of Community Action Agencies (CAA) across the country. CAAs act as hubs in their local communities, bringing together local, state, and national partners to address community needs and providing vital services to promote economic security. NWCSA was founded to address the underlying causes of poverty in our service area (Ashland, Bayfield, Iron, Douglas, and Price Counties) and to provide programs that help people move up the ladder of economic opportunity.

What We Do

We provide a broad range of services including food pantry, Memory Lane Adult Day Services, Women, Infant, and Children (WIC), coordinated entry, affordable housing, permanent supportive housing, emergency shelters in Ashland and Superior, VITA tax assistance program, AmeriCorps Senior RSVP volunteer program, and the Lew Martin Senior Center.
