CORE Community Resources is looking for an organizer for helping to keep track of the durable medical equipment that is lent out to the community. Carefully look over and clean equipment to ensure it is in good working order and ready for the next user.  Maintain inventory list of all equipment. Drop In Respite. Taking care of a loved one takes a massive toll on the caregiver. Help them be able to get some quality respite care ensuring their loved ones are safe, well cared for, and are enjoying their time with others. Help with snacks, meal assistance, conversation, games, and puzzles. The effect you can have on your neighbor’s lives is endless. Sites will be in Ashland, Washburn, and Cable. 

Come out to Washburn to help maintain the school district’s existing school gardens that include a vegetable garden, orchard, bioswale, butterfly garden, habitat field, high tunnel, school forest, and aquaponics lab on the grounds of the Washburn School District. Volunteers will work the full-time district garden caretaker in all parts of care of this area.  From mowing, weeding, trimming, building raised beds, mulching, planning, planting, maintaining, and harvesting vegetable, trees, and native plantings.  Get your hands dirty to help continue to provide this important resource for the school staff, students, and community. 

Volunteer Pet Support Coordinator, it’s Meals on Wheels for pets. Help support the very loved pets of our Meals on Wheels community by ensuring their needs are met also. Help build network relationships and raise awareness in the community to bring in food, supplies, and other donation needs for these beloved pets.

Disaster action team who responds day or night to meet the needs of their neighbors. Training provided both on-line and in-person and are free of charge.

The IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program provides free tax return preparation for low- and moderate- income households meeting specific guidelines. A great deal of our capacity is provided by our dedicated volunteers with support and training provided by our knowledgeable employees, experienced volunteers, and the IRS.

VITA Tax Return volunteers assist clients in the preparation and submission of federal and state tax returns.

VITA ensures that clients get the maximum refund back without having to pay expensive tax prep fees or be subject to predatory refund-anticipation loans.

VITA volunteers are up to the challenge of learning the ins and outs of tax preparation, enjoy puzzling out tax problems collaboratively, and work hard to support our clients in tax filing. Volunteers can serve as Greeters or Tax Preparers and are asked to commit to:

- participation in virtual training offered starting in November with Greeters having a total of 3-5 hours of content and Tax Preparers having a total of 15-20 hours. Set your own pace and support is readily available.

- completion of an IRS certification exam with support provided by our experienced staff and volunteers.

- a commitment of a minimum of 1 day per week from January to April (about 14 weeks). With flexible scheduling to choose when you will volunteer. People love volunteering for VITA because they

- help families stay in their homes, put food on the table, and save for the future.

- engage in gratifying volunteer work-interact directly with the people you are helping and see the immediate impact of your work.

- take on a new challenge. Becoming tax certified is a great mental challenge for those who want to learn something new, gain valuable experience in preparing income tax returns and encountering various tax issues.

- develop/refine client counseling skills in a protected environment.

- gain leadership skills, resume experience, and network with others.

What if I'm not a finance/numbers person? It's okay! Training and reference materials are provided, taxes are prepared with easy-to-use software, knowledgeable volunteers and staff are always on hand to help if you have questions, and all returns are quality reviewed for accuracy.

Closets and Cupboards of NWCSA-RSVP is looking for more hands to keep the goods moving in and out to the community. Volunteers are needed to sort donations brought in by the community and to stock the 3 different give-away programs during business hours of 9 am to 2 pm Monday through Friday at NWCSA-RSVP 623 2nd Avenue East, Ashland.

Short or Long-term volunteer opportunities are available. 

Opportunity take place during regular business hours, 9 am to 1 pm and 2 pm to 4 pm, Monday through Friday.

Basic Office help needed. Flexible shifts from 2 hours per month to 40 hours per week.  

Answering phones, taking messages, transferring calls, opening and sorting mail and faxes, organizing office spaces and files, greeting and assisting

office visitors and volunteers, organizing materials and assembling packets, and helping participants with resource referral and navigation.

Come help other like-minded volunteers create an environment that is fun to work in along with helping those in need. Schedules vary with you working 1 day per week or 1 day per month. Museums are open to the public to provide a connection to the past. Volunteer to keep those doors open by manning the information desk, be a clerk in the museum store or work to provided income to keep the lights on and the people coming in.  Background checks are required of all volunteers. Training provided. Positions available in Washburn, Ashland, and Hurley.

Help to fulfill a critical need by delivering meals to the homebound through the Meals on Wheels program.  One-hour routes for delivery around Ashland and Ashland County.  Training provided in how to hand out meals, what to watch for with clients, and interacting with them.  

Background checks are required. 

Mileage provided along with a free meal.
