Description

Help create a “home-like” environment for the people we serve by assisting with serving the evening meal. You’ll provide basic dignity to survivors by providing them with comfort and nourishment while also following food safety guidelines.

Key Responsibilities: The Shelter works with a food service to provide meals for shelter residents. Volunteers will help prep the kitchen, serve food, and clean up after the meal. Volunteers will be working alongside Safe Haven advocate staff during this task.

Impact of the Assignment: You will help create a safe place for individuals to heal. Having a volunteer to help with serving meals allows more one on one time with the advocates and individuals we serve.

Time Commitment: 1 day over the week, 4:30-6:30pm. We are also flexible to those who want to volunteer on a bi-weekly or monthly basis.

Qualifications:

  • An understanding of the dynamics of domestic violence.
  • Comfortability in a kitchen setting.
  • Ability to quickly adapt to competing needs.

After onboarding as a volunteer, you:

  • Will need to complete and pass a DHS background check
  • Will need to complete SERV Safe Training

Training: Volunteers in this position will go through Safe Haven’s basic Domestic Violence 101 Training. Volunteers will then shadow current staff and volunteers to learn the basic tasks of the position.

Benefits to volunteer: This is an opportunity where you can make a difference. Feeding families will leave you with a sense of accomplishment and provide some of the basic needs to survivors!
