Single- and multi-family fires account for 90% of disaster responses. Compassionate and committed Disaster Action Team volunteers respond day and night to meet the immediate needs of their neighbors. Volunteers carry out 90% of the service provided by the American Red Cross, so it goes without saying without volunteers, we couldn’t do what we do. Currently our teams are stretched thin, while the demand for our service is growing. We strive to respond consistently in a proactive, timely and meaningful way, making service available to everyone who needs assistance. The Shelter Resident Transition Volunteer help shelter residents create personalized plans to overcome roadblocks and transition to new housing. They play a critical role in reducing disaster-caused displacement and aiding in long-term recovery for individuals.
