Lake Superior Railroad Museum & North Shore Scenic Railroad

Who We Are

The museum's main gallery is the site of the train shed of the former Duluth Union Depot ( 1890/92), a building placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971. The museum has a long history of operating excursion trains.

What We Do

Recognizing the great contribution of railroading, the Lake Superior Railroad Museum preserves, interprets, and presents to the public the history of railroading in the region. LSRM was founded in 1973 as a local volunteer effort. It was and immediate success when it opened to the public two years after and has exceeded what was envisioned by its founders. The museum is now one of the largest and most-important railroad-related museums in the United States. The LSRM is an independent, non-profit organization that also functions as an operating railroad under Federal Railroad Administration regulations. It is adjacent to the ticket office and waiting room of the NSSR - North Shore Scenic Railroad.
